Just as reported previously, Walmart is selling the iPhone. It is now confirmed, the largest retailer chain will start selling Apple's popular iPhone on Sunday.
Walmart will make the iPhone available to a price of $197 for the 8-gigabyte model, and $297 for the 16-gigabyte model. Crap, that is just $2 less than the regular price!

I do not know how the public can become interested with this. The rumors that Walmart will sell the iPhone for $99, isn't true after all. If the price difference is insignificant, never mind! I rather buy it at Apple Inc. or AT&T Inc. stores or at Bestbuy.com.

According to a new study, shipments of notebook computers (I think this includes the netbooks) overtake desktop sales in the third quarter of 2008 for the first time. The research firm iSupply released the results showing the notebook shipments shot up about 40 percent from the same period a year ago to 38.6 million, while desktop shipments fell about 1.3 percent to 38.5 million.

The numbers underscore a broader shift toward portable computing as more functions like e-mail and Web surfing migrate to mobile phones and the popularity of inexpensive "netbooks" used mainly for Internet access grows.

The study projects portable computers sales will grow by 15.2 percent in 2009, while expecting a 6.7 percent decline for desktops and servers using PC microprocessors.

Will Sony VAIO launch a netbook in January? According to Sony New Zealand website, "in 17 days and 11 hours, Sony VAIO will change the way you look at laptops. Forever."

So what do you think? If Sony can produce a netbook that could compete with the current prices of the best mini-laptops or netbooks like the Samsung NC10, and offer better features, I surely will buy one.

As I am tired of the backpack that I am using presently, I am buying myself a new laptop bag. I am a traveler and my laptop or my netbook is my best companion. A day is never complete without me checking the internet or blogging. A cute laptop bag for my cute little tech buddy is what all that I want.

If you can give me a bag that will survive the toughest of times - a rain in the middle of a hiking trip, or a fall from a bike ride -- that will be awesome. The bag has to endure anything.

I may go for the Endo courier bag from Spire USA. Spire USA offers laptop bags with outstanding protection, convenience and versatility. Features are amazing:

Features include:

* TripleShock padding system
* Mesh water bottle pocket
* Beefy 2" single-buckle closure
* Die-cut reflective ovals
* Multiple internal and external pockets
* Pass-through for rolling luggage handle
* Removable key fob
* MP3 pocket with headphone grommet
* Padded handle with anti-sag reinforcement
* Removable waist strap
* Glow-in-the-dark zipper pulls
* Rugged 1680D Ballistic nylon exterior
* Light gray interior
* Asymmetrical shoulder strap pad
* Lifetime warranty against defects

This bag fits my style and it fits my budget too.

The HP Dual Core 12.1 inch Tablet PC used to be priced at close or over a thousand dollars. This time, Woot.com is offering the HP 12.1 Tablet PC for just $649.99.

It has a 250 GB of hard drive with 3GB of RAM. It is also a touch-screen tablet notebook.

Gateway is a popular laptop brand name. But I haven't heard anything about a Gateway netbook. But, finally, the company is launching a new Gateway LT1001G netbook in the market.
The Gateway mini laptop, will have these specs:

- 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU
- 8.9 inch screen
- 1024 x 600 pixel display
- 1GB of RAM
- 160GB hard drive

The features are common to what you mostly get from other netbooks. The Gateway netbook's price in Singapore is $688. That is $458, equivalent US price.

Note: Acer owns Gateway. That could be the reason why the Gateway netbook looks like an ACER Aspire One.

This is good news for the HP netbook lovers. HP Mini 1000 has now drops its starting price to $359 from the original price of $399.

What netbooks or mini-laptops have included an optional wireless broadband modem and service plan in the United States? So far, there are just two -- Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and the HP Mini 1000.

Users of Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook running Windows XP have the option of adding a 3G HSPA modem to their units. It is a bit pricey at $125, but after signing up for a 2 year AT&T service plan, you get $120 back.

HP is also offering all US customers the option of adding an internal mobile broadband modem in their units. While Dell Inspiron Mini 9 option works for AT&T network, HP works for AT&T or Verizon’s wireless broadband networks. However, HP's option will cost you an extra $199. You also have to have these HP features in order to purchase the modem: 60GB HD and 1GB RAM.

What about if you just buy a USB modem from AT&T or Verizon? It might be a better deal as you can plug it in any laptop.

Why need a mobile broadband modem? If you are a traveler and you find yourself always stuck in the middle of nowhere without a WiFi connectivity, then the broadband modem will surely work for you.
