What netbooks or mini-laptops have included an optional wireless broadband modem and service plan in the United States? So far, there are just two -- Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and the HP Mini 1000.
Users of Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook running Windows XP have the option of adding a 3G HSPA modem to their units. It is a bit pricey at $125, but after signing up for a 2 year AT&T service plan, you get $120 back.
HP is also offering all US customers the option of adding an internal mobile broadband modem in their units. While Dell Inspiron Mini 9 option works for AT&T network, HP works for AT&T or Verizon’s wireless broadband networks. However, HP's option will cost you an extra $199. You also have to have these HP features in order to purchase the modem: 60GB HD and 1GB RAM.
What about if you just buy a USB modem from AT&T or Verizon? It might be a better deal as you can plug it in any laptop.
Why need a mobile broadband modem? If you are a traveler and you find yourself always stuck in the middle of nowhere without a WiFi connectivity, then the broadband modem will surely work for you.
