Just came from the movie house after watching There Will Be Blood starring Daniel Day-Lewis. I thought the film was not impressive due to comments I've heard from two American friends that the film sucks in story and soundtrack. However, I think the film was really good, with cinematography at its best.
Daniel Day-Lewis was indeed deserving of the Academy Best Actor award for the film. He did a very impressive performance as an oil tycoon. The many amateur actors and extras have been too good too with all the right moves. According to one critic: the film is above all a consummate work of art, one that transcends the historically fraught context of its making, and its pleasures are unapologetically aesthetic.
I should put it in my top ten lists of the best films of 2008!
